Distilled

Film screening at Pionierfläche OTTO at Haus der Statistik

20 June 19:00-21:00

Otto-Braun-Straße 70-72, 10178 Berlin

Distilled is a moving documentary about Asmir Hadzibeganovic, who was forced to flee Bosnia in 1995 at the age of 17. His youth was shaped by war, and his escape was fraught with risk and uncertainty. Today Asmir lives in Berlin and is a successful entrepreneur. As he pursues his dream of building a distillery in an old, ruined Berlin cellar, the past catches up with him. For the first time since his escape, he asks himself if he could return. If he does, what will he find there? Distilled accompanies Asmir on this emotional journey – between the past and the future, between home and identity.

Direction and camera by an award-winning director and filmmaker Christopher Larson, whose work has been screened at film festivals worldwide. Sound created by Alessandro Paganelli. Colour by Raphael Freitas. Duration 23 minutes.

Distilled is an award winner at the Berlin Indie Film Festival 2024, and an official selection at Izmir International Refugee Film Festival 2025.
